ArchKey Solutions is proud to have partnered on the completion of Essentia Health–St. Mary’s Medical Center, a $900 million, 930,000-square-foot flagship hospital in Duluth, MN. Perched on the bluffs above Lake Superior, the 12-story facility brings together a wide range of services under one modern campus—purposefully designed for efficiency, healing, and community connection.
This state-of-the-art medical center is already making a difference for patients, staff, and the greater community by streamlining care delivery, supporting staff workflows, and providing private, comfortable patient rooms alongside inviting public spaces. It reflects what’s possible when healthcare design keeps people at the center.
Scope of Work
Under a design-build contract with Essentia Vision Northland, ArchKey provided comprehensive services spanning preconstruction, civil, electrical, lighting, and distribution systems. The team worked closely with the design partners to deliver critical public safety systems such as Neutral Host DAS, paging, telecom rooms, and areas of refuge. Security played a major role in the project, with installations including more than 500 card readers, 500 cameras, 40 intercoms, dual Bosch intrusion systems, and 16 elevator integrations—all tied into a multi-state Lenel/Milestone security platform. In addition, ArchKey integrated advanced healthcare technologies, including nurse call systems and telehealth capabilities in 78 patient rooms outfitted with cameras, microphones, speakers, and privacy switches. Network infrastructure was optimized through telecom room setups, angled patch panels, and mock-up installations, ensuring reliable connectivity and efficient use of space throughout the facility.
