Northstar Center – West
The Northstar Center in Minneapolis, originally built in 1963, has been reimagined into a vibrant mixed-use office building that blends contemporary functionality with the character of its mid-century design. ArchKey Solutions partnered with Gardner Builders to help transform the 100,000-square-foot space into an open-concept workplace that honors its history while meeting today’s standards for comfort, efficiency, and style.
The revitalized facility now features Skyboxes (open-concept workspaces), a 10,000-square-foot outdoor terrace, a 9-hole indoor golf course, a two-story bar, a fitness center, and flexible meeting and event venues. Thoughtful design choices and modern infrastructure ensure the space feels both innovative and welcoming, while staying true to the building’s architectural roots.
Scope of Work
ArchKey delivered comprehensive solutions that combined modern systems with historic preservation. Our team collaborated closely with the client’s design partners to source and coordinate lighting fixtures that complemented the building’s original character while meeting performance and energy efficiency standards. To streamline delivery and maintain precision, our BIM team developed detailed lighting layouts and power drawings, bridging design concepts with field execution. Leveraging these BIM models, our prefabrication team built rough-in kits and installation drawings for field electricians, unboxed and installed lighting whips on all non-decorative fixtures, and prepared assemblies off-site for greater efficiency. Despite challenges such as evolving design plans, sourcing constraints, and shipping delays, ArchKey provided solutions that ensured quality workmanship and timely completion.
The result is a modern, amenity-rich workspace that reflects both the building’s history and its renewed role as a hub for collaboration and community.
